CAAPA’s nationwide MasterClass initiative takes students to a higher music level hitting their talent in a refreshing and enlightening way.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Master classes have been taught in colleges and university music programs for decades. What makes CAAPA’s MasterClass Series unique, is that it is the first time a unified program “Brings Color to the Classics!” by showcasing Black musicians as the MusicMasters.
Going into the second season for the program, African American arts organization honors the legacy of Black Classical Musicians with a first-time national MasterClass Series® featuring African American MusicMasters® to offer underserved performing arts institutions, Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU’s), high schools, conservatories, music schools, and more an opportunity to feature a quality top-notch Master Class.
The Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts (CAAPA), held the first of a series of MasterClass programs at during the 2014-2015 season, that included four Historically Black College & Universities (HBCU’s), at no cost to the presenters, students, or attendees.
Symbolic to the legacy of classical musicians of African heritage, the MasterClass Series® begins during Black History Month and continues through the spring, adding sessions regularly, while being presented in cities throughout the country.
The CAAPA national MasterClass Series® initiative is the first time an African American arts organization has ever offered a program specifically targeting the black audience.
